New Twitter App?

Check out the latest for Twitter Apps!

Twitter Is Testing Out Its Official Google Glass App In The Wild

DREW OLANOFF

It’s only a matter of time before Twitter releases its own Google Glass app, as Kleiner Perkins’ John Doerr dropped the hint that the company was looking into building one during this month’s Glass Collective announcement.
A tweet from an official Twitter Glass app has been spotted, interestingly enough by the gentleman who brought you the first unofficial Twitter app, GlassTweet.
The user that it came from had no information in their bio when I looked at the profile, but it has since been deleted, along with the tweet below:

View image on Twitter

You’ll notice the “Twitter for Glass” label, which denotes which app the tweet came from. That, coupled with the fact that the account has since been deleted, shows that somebody might have let the cat, or Glass, out of the bag a little too early.
I reached out to Twitter, but the company provided us with no statement or comment on its intentions for Glass. It will be interesting to see what an actual Twitter Glass experience will be, as I can’t imagine that anyone would want to see every single tweet from their stream pass before their eye. I could see the utility of getting direct messages, perhaps replies and mentions and most certainly sharing pics and videos.
Expect to see a lot of Glass apps popping up from companies like Twitter and Facebook in the next few months, as the companies are trying to figure out how best to tap into a device that could increase usage and let users share a brand new perspective with media.
The example that I always use with people is that Glass will be really fun at a concert or other live event, where I don’t have to take a phone out of my pocket and remove myself from the situation. It will be natural to snap a shot without disrupting my field of vision and attention.

Don’t Know What To Tweet About

Here is an article with great ideas on what to Tweet about!

10 Things You Can Tweet About On Twitter

Nancy Marmolejo http://vivavisibilityblog.com/10-things-you-can-tweet-about-on-twitter/

I recently introduced my brother and his company to Twitter, and the first question asked was truthful and simple:
“Um, this is all good.. but what do we Tweet about?”
I like to use the “big room” analogy to help people get a better understanding of what to Tweet about: Imagine you’re walking into a big room of fellow professionals, all mixing and mingling.
You might smile at someone and say “Great shirt!”, or you  may recognize a familiar face and ask “Don’t I know you from somewhere?”. You can ask directions to the appetizer table, roll your eyes and comment how crowded it is, jump into an overheard comment, or simply smile.
Applied to Twitter (and using it to network with others for business purposes), you can find many ways to create touchpoints with your friends and followers.
Here are 10 things you can Tweet about- drag this list out when your mind runs blank.

1. @Replies
The best way to develop relationships with people is to respond to their posts and conversations. Key in the @ sign followed by the person’s username (no spaces) with your response. Give support, laugh, share a similar experience… do what you can to show others that you’re interested in what they are Tweeting about.

2. Retweets
Second to @Replies are Retweets. When you see shareworthy posts, key in the letters RT or the word Retweet then @TheirUserName. If you use applications like TweetDeck or Twhirl, it makes this very easy. Retweeting is good karma 2.0!

3. Countdowns
You can fill an event and build anticipation by counting down to start time. 1 day left, 1 hour left, 5 minutes left… this strategy has worked incredibly well for live video casts, podcasts, teleseminars, and even in-person Tweet Ups!

4. Blog Posts
If you’re a blogger, let folks read your latest post by Tweeting the title and a link. Better yet, make it really simple by using a site like Twitterfeed.

5. “As-It-Happens” Updates
Whether you’re wandering an Expo Hall, attending a webinar, at a conference, or listening to a teleseminar, you can create a live newsfeed with your Tweets.

6. Photos
Use a site like TwitPic to upload a photo and send a Tweet simultaneously. What’s great about TwitPic is that when people leave comments on your photos, it will send those out as Tweets too.

7. Questions
This is a favorite of mine. Simply ask a question and watch your friends and followers respond.Great for impromptu market research or quick feedback.

8. Maladies
It’s OK if your Tweets aren’t all rays of sunshine and optimism… sometimes we need to commiserate in the public stream. When you Tweet about your sore throat, computer crash, lost cat, or stressful day, you’ll be amazed at the outpouring of expert support.

9. Celebrations
Tweet about getting a new client, finishing a big project, meeting a deadline, achieving a milestone, or whatever else merits a bit of festivity. This is a great way for others to learn about your achievements in a non-boastful way.

10. Trivial Touchpoints
Believe it or not, profitable contacts have been made on Twitter simply by sharing what you’re doing at the moment. Whether it’s drinking coffee, watching the Sopranos, standing in line, or waiting out a toddler tantrum, the mundane can turn itself into an avenue for real connections.

Twitter is no great mystery, it’s simply digital small talk. Small talk opens the doors to bigger, more profitable conversations. Use these 10 Twitter techniques to break the ice and make valuable touchpoints.
I’d love your favorite ways to use Twitter, drop a note in the comments box!

Can Women Tweet?

The latest Tweets by some special Women!

Best Tweets: What Women Said On Twitter This Week

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/09/best-tweets-women-on-twitter_n_3247855.html#slide=2419618

Chrissy Teigen stopped by HuffPost Live earlier this week to discuss her new reality series as well as what it’s like to be a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, but that’s not why we’re recognizing her now. (No, this isn’t about the rumors either.)

Our friends at HuffPost Style have noted before that Teigen is very funny on Twitter, but we have to admit we weren’t paying as much attention. Maybe we should have been. Her visit to our office reminded us to check out her popular feed, and it seems she can be pretty entertaining. We especially liked her tweet on Thursday: “Salads. Because society has deemed it weird to just eat delicious croutons and dressing.”

For more amusing tweets from women, click through the gallery below. Then visit our Funniest Tweets From Women page for our past collections.

Apologies to my friend to whom I said, “I was literally whisked away.” Please don’t worry, I did not end up as scrambled eggs.

Followers On Twitter Are All Over The World!

Wait until you see this map of just how BIG Twitter is!  It is Awesome!!

‘Month in the life of Twitter’ survey shows network’s distribution of languages

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/twitter/10046248/Month-in-the-life-of-Twitter-survey-shows-networks-distribution-of-languages.html

A survey of a “month in the life of Twitter” has been mapped to show the distribution of languages used in tweets around the world.

During the huge month-long survey, 1.5bn tweets were streamed from 71.3m unique users by creator Kalev Leetaru. Leetaru used the Twitter ‘decahose’, a feed of 10 percent of all tweets not available to the general public.

Of the tweets surveyed, 3 per cent contained geo-location data and were mapped by Leetaru and colour co-ordinated by language. According to his survey, 38 per cent of all tweets are sent in English. Second was Spanish with 11 per cent, third Portuguese wth 6 per cent.

Western European countries are dominated by tweeting in their own languages, with neatly defined colour boundaries shown on the map. Far less internet penetration in Eastern Euopean countries results in a much sparser and more varied distribution.

Western European countries are dominated by their native languages, unlike Eastern Europe, where internet penetration is much lower.

Predictably, Africa shows very sparse Twitter activity, with a significant use of English in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana. France’s influence is visible in the Northern African countries, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.

The UK and the US are dominated by English of course, but both show a scattering of other languages throughout the country. A filtered version of the map showing just English language tweets shows that English is still spoken widely in nearly every country, especially in Western Europe, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The map reinforces the extent to which the country with the world’s biggest population and world’s most internet users is absent from the social network. China, where Twitter is banned in favour of the country’s own tightly controlled Weibo, appears on the map as a giant blackspot.

China, on the left, appears almost completely black, as does North Korea. On the right, Japan, highlighted in purple, and South Korea, in blue.

Twitter users in China use advanced VPNs and often change their identified location, Leetaru points out, which would throw off the image. The notoriously secretive state of North Korea also appears completely black.

The data for the map was collected between October 23 and November 30, 2012.

Can Warren Buffett Tweet?

     You bet he can!!!!!

Buffett’s first tweet: ‘Warren is in the house’

Richard Blackden

By

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/digital-media/10034105/Buffetts-first-tweet-Warren-is-in-the-house.html

“Warren is in the house” was how billionaire investor Warren Buffett told the world he had joined Twitter.

Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett plays the ukulele and sings with the Quebe Sisters Band, prior to participating in an annual shareholders meeting, in Omaha, Neb

America’s most famous investor had amassed 60,000 followers less than an hour after opening his account on Thursday afternoon. He passed 100,000 followers within two hours.

The 82-year-old’s decision to join the micro-blogging site is something of a surprise, though, given he does not have a computer at home and reportedly rarely switches on a mobile phone.

The world’s fourth-richest man has also steered away from investing in technology companies, arguing that he will not put his money into something he does not fully understand.

However, that aversion has weakened over the past 12 months, and last year Mr Buffett became one of the biggest investors in IBM.

Although it remains to be seen how often Mr Buffett will tweet, his pithy wisecracks and homespun investment advice could prove well suited to the 140 character messages that Twitter allows.

Fellow billionaire Bill Gates was one of the first to welcome Mr Buffett to Twitter, tweeting: “Welcome to Twitter @WarrenBuffett. First ever Twitter bridge tourney starts now. I bid 3 Hearts.”

Bill Gates tweeted this picture of him and Warren Buffett

Mr Buffett is now the second wealthiest person on Twitter, behind Mr Gates.

Mr Buffett’s decision to join comes a month after the Securities and Exchange Commission said that companies could begin to use Twitter, Facebook and other social media to release their results.

Berkshire Hathaway, Mr Buffett’s company, holds its annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday. The meeting draws investors from around the world eager to come away with investment advice and insight.

How To Twitter and Keyword Advertise on Twitter!

This is great news and a great article on advertising on Twitter!

Introducing Keyword Targeting in Timelines

Posted by

Nipoon Malhotra - @Nipoon
Product Manager, Revenue

Advertising on Twitter works well because the experience is built into the fabric of the product: a Promoted Tweet, for instance, is simply a Tweet targeted using the interest graph formed from public user signals like follows.

Until today, the content of Tweets has only been one factor among many in shaping the interest graph. Today, it becomes a first-class citizen. We’re excited to roll out the newest feature on our ad platform, keyword targeting in timelines, available today in all languages and markets where Twitter Ads are supported
Available in the full Twitter Ads UI and through the Ads API, this new feature enables advertisers to reach users based on the keywords in their recent Tweets and the Tweets with which users recently engaged. This is an important new capability – especially for those advertisers looking for signals of intent – because it lets marketers reach users at the right moment, in the right context.
For example: let’s say a user tweets about enjoying the latest album from their favorite band, and it so happens that band is due to play a concert at a local venue. That venue could now run a geotargeted campaign using keywords for that band with a Tweet containing a link to buy the tickets. That way, the user who tweeted about the new album may soon see that Promoted Tweet in their timeline letting them know tickets are for sale in their area.
Users won’t see any difference in their use of Twitter — we’re not showing ads more frequently in timelines, and users can still dismiss Promoted Tweets they don’t find relevant. In fact, we believe users’ experiences with ads will improve as a result of this feature as they see more relevant Promoted Tweets. In our tests with a small group of advertisers and agencies like Everything Everywhere (@EE), Microsoft Japan (@SurfaceJP), and Walgreens (@Walgreens), users were significantly more likely to engage with Promoted Tweets using keyword targeting in timeline than other forms of targeting in the timeline.
GoPro (@GoPro), a leader in wearable and gear-mountable cameras, is a great example of a test partner that achieved promising results. After testing keyword targeting in timeline across four marketing campaigns, GoPro saw close to two million impressions, and engagement rates as high as 11 percent on Tweets promoted using the new feature.
Setting up a campaign to target keywords in the timeline is very similar to the setup process for search. Enter the keywords you want to target, choose whether you want to use phrase match or unordered keyword match, and specify your other targeting options such as geographic locationdevice and gender.
We’re excited to see how our advertisers take advantage of this new feature. For more information about how the keyword targeting works, please see our help center article.
